New Podcast by ATCJS Professor Naomi Seidman

December 14, 2022 by Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies

We are excited to share that Chancellor Jackman Professor in the Arts and ATCJS Professor Naomi Seidman has created a podcast! “Heretic in the House” is being made in partnership with the Shalom Hartman Institute. In this limited audio series, Seidman takes listeners on a deeply moving journey with believers and heretics to uncover their hidden stories and how they grapple with Jewish identity, religion in the public square, and pluralism. The series challenges the tropes that have come to dominate popular narratives about Orthodoxy. Each episode aims to answer central questions: Why do those with no connection to Orthodox Judaism find the stories of apostates from the community so interesting? Are those who leave entirely shunned? What narratives do the Orthodox community believe about those who leave? Is it always the defector who makes the decision to go? As the episodes become available, they will be posted on the website.

You can listen to “Heretic in the House” on the web HERE or via Spotify.
