First Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship by the ATCJS and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine

December 21, 2021 by The Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of the first joint Postdoctoral Fellow between the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies (ATCJS) at the Faculty of Arts and Science and Office of Inclusion and Diversity at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine (TFOM). The incumbent, Dr. Joanna Krongold (PhD English, University of Toronto)  will support advanced research related to addressing antisemitism in health professions education and practice.  Dr. Krongold will hold the ATCJS/TFOM Postdoctoral Fellowship from  January 1, 2022-December 31, 2022 and be supervised by Dr. Ayelet Kuper,  Scientist and Associate Director of the Wilson Centre for Research in Education and Senior Advisor on Antisemitism at TFOM.

Dr. Joanna Krongold received her PhD from the Department of English at the University of Toronto in 2020; her dissertation examined the use of metaphor and figurative dynamics in youth Holocaust literature. Joanna’s current research addresses the rise of antisemitism during the COVID-19 pandemic. This work will be part of a larger project that explores the relationship between genocide and ecocide by applying an ecocritical lens to Holocaust literature. Joanna’s work has been published in The Palgrave Handbook of Holocaust Literature and Culture, a special issue of Canadian Jewish Studies / Études juives canadiennes on Canadian Holocaust literature, and the forthcoming issue of Lessons and Legacies. Joanna has had the opportunity to teach people of all ages through the Toronto District School Board, the University of Toronto, Living and Learning in Retirement, and through public and private lectures.
